The magnificent Queen's Room is the principle dining room, with a barrel-vaulted ceiling dating back to the 12th century. A live fire lights the room and keeps the autumn chills at bay.

The Great Room, built in 1165 by Bishop Luffa of Chichester, is a fine example of Norman architecture. The last Bishop to spend time here while the See of Chichester owned the Castle was Bishop Sherborne from 1508 to 1536.

He made his mark by dividing the dining hall into two floors, the Queen's Room with its lancet windows, barrel vaulted ceiling and mural, appointed in 1686 to commemorate the 'restoration' and the Great Room, with its high lancet windows, open fireplace, oak flooring, tapestry and suits of armour.

Both rooms are outstanding and their ancient character creates an ambience which is unique to Amberley Castle and the perfect setting for Castle cuisine.

Let your mind wander and reflect upon the long and colourful history of these beautiful rooms.
